Searching for God online is like going to a shopping mall. It's difficult to know where to start because there are so many options.
There are several megasites, however, that can help computer surfers find their way.
One of the most popular is Beliefnet.com, a 7-month-old site co-founded by Steven Waldman, a former editor at U.S. News & World Report.
The sophisticated Web site carries links to information about all the major religions, a look at religion in the news and popular culture, plus columnists such as Bishop T.D. Jakes and Andrew Greeley.
"The mission of this site is to help people in their own spiritual needs as opposed to my definition of their spiritual needs," Waldman said.
The site also has a section devoted to prayer circles, memorials and discussions --- key ingredients to the popularity of spirituality on the Web.
"So much of religion and spirituality is about community," Waldman said.
"That's where the Web really thrives."
Here's a sampling of other Web sites dealing with religion and spirituality:
About.com/religion: A guide to all the world's major religions and sacred texts.
Desi Beliefs section of Virtualindia.com: It's a good source for people who wants to learn about different religions in India.
